II. Reading Comprehension (25 Marks)
Read the following passage then answer the questions below:

Every year, just after Christmas, the January Sales start. All the shops reduce their prices and for two weeks they are full of people looking for bargains. My husband and I do not normally go to the sales as we don’t like crowds and in any case are short of money because we have to buy lots of Christmas presents.
Last year, however I took my husband with me to the sales at a large department store in the center of London. We both needed some new clothes and were hoping to find a portable television set. When we arrived at Oxford Street, it was so crowded that we decided to split up and meet again at the underground station. So I left my husband and started looking around the shops.

Unfortunately, all the clothes were not suitable for me, but I bought a television set at a very cheap price, so I felt quite pleased with myself. When I arrived at the station my husband was not there , so I sat down in a nearby café to have a cup of tea. I quickly finished my tea when I saw him and went out to meet him. He looked very happy. Then I saw him carrying a large and heavy cardboard box. “Oh dear!” I thought. Yes, we had no new clothes but we had two televisions. We shall not be going to the sales again.

III. Summary Making (10 Marks)

Read the following passage, then do as required below:

A library is a collection of books. The word library also means the place where the books are kept. There are many kinds of libraries : the one you have at home is a private library . There are also the school and the public libraries.

Public libraries are places where people can read and borrow books only with the help of the librarian. However, reference books are not to be taken away. Besides, there are the magazines and newspapers that should always be kept in a good order. Books in the library are arranged in a certain order, so borrowed books should be put back in their correct places on shelves.People come to the library to enjoy reading in silence or do researches. No noise of any kind is allowed inside the library. People should keep quiet and avoid causing any disturbance.

In four ( 4 ) sentences of your own, mention the common rules that should be followed in public libraries. (4 x 2½ =10 M)

Taking the permission of the librarian before borrowing any books. We should put books back in their places on shelves. We should keep magazines and newspapers in good order. Reference books are not allowed to be borrowed. We should also keep silent and avoid causing any disturbance.

IV. Translation ( 15 Marks)
A) Translate the following into Arabic: ( 10 marks)

Nowadays there is no longer any doubt that smoking is a fatal habit. In fact the number of those who have died from smoking-related diseases is more than the number of victims of dangerous diseases, wars or accidents in our time. Media campaigns were launched explaining the danger and encouraging a large number of smokers to stop smoking.
الآن لم يعد هناك شك أن التدخين عادة مميتة و في الواقع عدد الذين يموتون من الأمراض المتعلقة بالتدخين أكثر من عدد ضحايا الأمراض الخطيرة و الحروب و الحوادث في زماننا ، و قد تم إطلاق حملات إعلانية توضح الخطر و تشجع عدد كبير من المدخنين كي يتوقفوا عن التدخين .

B) Translate the following into English: ( 5 marks)

احمد: إن المهرجانات تساعد في إبراز إنتاج الشعوب في الفنون والثقافة والصناعة.

Ahmed : Festivals help in showing people’s productions in arts , culture and industry.

علي: نعم , كما أنها فرصة جيدة للتسوق .

Ali : Yes . It is also a good chance for shopping .
